Day Program
ECH opens Southern Day Program for older people
Aged Care provider ECH has started a new Day Program of social activities in Happy Valley for older people in the southern suburbs who may be feeling lonely or for various reasons are looking for an opportunity to connect with other people.
The Day Program will offer activities ranging from arts and crafts to exercises or tailored outings depending on the interests of participants. For a nominal fee participants can be picked up from their home, enjoy a fun-filled four to five hour session which will include their midday meal and then be driven home again if required.
“The benefits of active socialisation and maintaining community connections are extensive for all age groups but particularly older people who may be struggling due to mobility or health restrictions”, says Chris O’Brien, ECH Day Program Coordinator.
“We aim to enhance the independence of participants by helping them to achieve their goals, share their talents, learn new skills and remain involved in their community. However it can often be simply the social interaction that is of most benefit through lifting people’s spirit and increasing their confidence.
“While participants are enjoying a program of activities focused on their individual needs, their carers have an opportunity to catch up on other aspects of their lives,” Chris says
ECH’s Southern Day Program is available to people who are aged 65 years or older, including people with memory loss, and is located at Cana Chapel on the corner of Jade crescent and Hay street in Happy Valley. Initially the program will operate on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 10am until 3pm.
ECH is one of South Australia’s largest not-for-profit providers of independent living units, community services and residential care services for older people.
